Raise Taxes and Cut Services? Why Not Stop Unnecessary Bailouts, Unnecessary Wars and Unnecessary Interest Costs Instead?

House majority leader Steny Hoyer - a close ally to President Obama - says the U.S. needs to raise taxes and cut spending .

As Agence France-Presse reports:

The United States must embrace a blend of tax increases and spending cuts to rein in its deficit or face a potentially crippling debt crisis like the one in Greece, a top US lawmaker warned Monday.

"It is enough to look across the Atlantic at Greece's extreme economic crisis and understand: It can happen here. If we don't change course, it will happen here," said Democratic House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer...

"It seems to me that the only solution that can win the support of both parties is a balanced approach: one that cuts some spending and raises some revenue while avoiding extremes in either direction," he said.

Of course, many others have warned of the massive debt overhang in the U.S. as well.

But why aren't our government "leaders" talking about slashing the military-industrial complex, which is ruining our economy with unnecessary imperial adventures?

And why aren't any of our leaders talking about stopping the permanent bailouts for the financial giants who got us into this mess? And see this.

And why aren't they taking away the power to create credit from the private banking giants - which is costing our economy trillions of dollars (and is leading to a decrease in loans to the little guy) - and give it back to the states?

If we did these things, we wouldn't have to raise taxes or cut core services to the American people.

  1. Good points. I would argue that defense is one of the few things the government is justified in spending our money on, though they should cut back the offensive military spending. I think that default (treasuries, bonds, etc) and inflation should also be on your list.

  2. I am not at all opposed to cutting services. And right now it is as good an idea -as it has always been.

People at the top game the system. And people at the bottom -game it too.

There's a lot of gaming of the system -going on right now.

The legacy of LBJ's War on Poverty has pretty-much brought this country to its knees with incompetents, outright morons, and jail-bound hoodlums.

Everyone wonders why we have such a high incarceration rate. It's because of a government-sponsored way of life (and reproduction) that is a legacy of LBJ's War on Poverty.

Face-it, paying folks a pittance to lie on their backs with their legs spread apart is bound to effect the gene pool after a while.

It's obviously not meant for everyone, just the idiots. They are the ones the government is paying to have all those -unwanted- kids.

And we're into the third generation of these folks who have never held a job or made a living for themselves.

Some will say, I am racist for my comments -if I do not address the issue here.

I'm talking about the welfare class of every creed and color.

I'm in northern Maine. We have plenty of it here.

These morons should be paid -NOT- to have kids.

Paying them to have kids, kind-of cheapens life.

I am not for raising taxes.

I do not want to see Bill Gate's taxes raised either, -not a nickel.

A lot of well-meaning humanitarian boobs -who can neither add nor subtract- think it would be splendid to raise the taxes of someone else.

I would not give a nickel -more- of my own money to the government, if I did not have to.

I have NEVER checked the public finance of campaigns -box- on my tax returns. NEVER! It's a fraud!

-And I vote against every bond issue that comes up. Those lazy bastards who come begging to borrow money should be tarred and feathered.

I would NOT have the government collect a nickel more from anyone.

I want the government de-funded, and their ability to borrow money taken away.

Look what it has gotten us.

Who would give government more money, regardless whose it is?

Some ill-bred morons -argue that taking more of Bill Gate's money will lower their own taxes.

These people obviously do not know how tax policy is decided. It has NOTHING to do with having more money than the government needs. Ha!

Some economists measure our economic progress by the amount of government debt being run-up.

The government debt should be subtracted from the GDP numbers.

    Think about it!

And some oddly religious folks think it wise to abstain from all birth control, and let -God- determine the number of children in a family.

But then, a lot people, -all of them in fact- are full of it too.

  4. WOW, what a laugh.

to the above anonymous poster: you sound exactly like my grandfather who babbles incoherently when confronted with actual facts disputing basically everything you mention above.

"I am not at all opposed to cutting services. And right now it is as good an idea -as it has always been." cut services? how about cutting off Dyncorp, Boeing, General Dynamics, Raytheon, ITT, Lockheed Martin to name a few from the proverbial government teet? that's the welfare that should be cut.

"People at the top game the system. And people at the bottom -game it too." Uh-HUH, let's take a look at those numbers....

"There's a lot of gaming of the system -going on right now." see the above responses....

The legacy of LBJ's War on Poverty has pretty-much brought this country to its knees with incompetents, outright morons, and jail-bound hoodlums.

welfare programs are a teeny-tiny fraction of the government's budget, HOW could it possibly be what led america to it's demise????

LBJ's war on poverty??? are you insane???

you are either a corporate shill or psy-ops or another faux-news devotee tea-bagger.

  5. I agree, and would add one more. Since Obama does not believe in the rule of law, as evidenced in his refusal to go after the Bush administration for torture or anything else, we should eliminate all law related agencies from the federal government. No FBI, no DEA, no Justice Department, etc.

  6. Its becoming academic that Shills posing as bloggers seem always to:
Be the first to respond to articles online
Always supporting the status quo in language that masks the reality of the fact.

The Hasabara, MegaPhone Network that pays bloggers to post online supportive language of the establishement is so expected.
I am wondering when these organizations are going to grow a brain?

I am also wondering when people are going to grow some balls & call for war crime charges against a government that authorized the murder of over a 1 MILLION people

  7. I would like to email this article to friends and family members but I will not do that until the words in the title are spelled correctly. Please fix the title so we can get this out.
This article and blog will have more believability once that is done.

    Thank you

  8. It is the big banks and corporations! They control everything! Now we are handing them our nations wealth, literally! Bailouts? We are paying them to bankrupt us! And at the same time allowing our so called leaders to strip us of our inalienable rights! We will be broke, hungry slaves if we don't stop the banks from controlling our national policy makers. It's happening right before our eyes! Wake up!

  9. The guy who talks about 3rd generation welfare recipients.

You head is so twisted into fantasy that I'm surprised you have even heard of the financial crisis.

It's these entitlement seekers that are our problems. No. It's the fact our wealth has been scammed out of us from the top.

People game the system. Yeah, for 500 bucks a month so they can live. Whoop-de-freaking-do.

How many welfare moms have to sit on their butt's (and let's for the idiots assume all of them are) and 'game the system' to account for #1,400,000,000,000,000

Yeah, it's a little like blaming the ant for tripping and falling.

Get this man a brain, or some psycho drugs, because he's obviously an idiot.

Oh I'm for cutting these numbers here and causing people to die. It's ok, it's justified. No it isn't. You're and idiot...and genocidal. Say hello to hitler when you're dining in hell.

  11. Hey, I agree with your points. It is also important to take control of creating money and earn interest on money created without cost to banks.

It is widely known that the Bank has "funded" War on both sides of the war. War is good for banks because it creates interest for banks on money created to fight Those Wars.
